• –Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) announced today it is waiving all copays for in-network primary care and outpatient behavioral health visits for Medicare Advantage members from June 1 through the end of 2020. Visits do not have to be related to COVID-19 and can be done in person or virtually through telehealth.
• BCBSAZ is waiving all copays, co-insurance, and other cost-sharing related to COVID-19 treatment from in-network providers. This means that members will pay $0 out-of-pocket should they or a family member covered under their BCBSAZ plan need treatment for COVID-19.

We continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and are committed to helping our employer customers and members stay informed. We have an update to the telehealth cost-share waiver end date for fully insured members (retail and group) and ASO groups that have opted into coverage decisions. As always, members should call the number on their ID card for answers to their specific benefit questions.

To help you provide care to your patients while continuing the social distancing practices that have helped reduce the spread of disease, Horizon BCBSNJ will continue to waive member cost sharing for in-networking telemedicine and telehealth visits for at least 90 days after the end of the public health emergency and State of Emergency declared by the Governor.

Illinois Mandate: Effective March 10, 2020, we began covering telehealth with in-network Illinois providers for retail and commercial members consistent with the terms of the member's benefit plan. This telehealth benefit coverage is currently available through Dec. 31, 2020. Copays, deductibles and coinsurance waiver set to expire on Sept. 30, 2020, will also continue through Dec. 31, 2020.

As we let you know in April, self-funded customers (ASO) who aligned with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) decisions for fully insured members would continue that alignment unless we were notified.

• BCBSIL will extend the cost-share waiver for telehealth through Dec. 31, 2020.

What this means for your ASO groups

An ASO account’s prior decision to waive cost-share for telehealth will be extended through Dec. 31, 2020, unless the account makes a request to BCBSIL to end the cost-share waiver.

If your ASO clients would like to make a change from their original decision, please contact your account executive no later than Wednesday, Sept. 23. If you don’t communicate that change by Sept. 23, your client’s decision will continue as currently coded. Change decisions made after Sept. 23 cannot be accommodated for an Oct. 1 effective date.

As a reminder, COVID-19 testing and testing-related visits are covered at no cost-share for fully insured and ASO members until the end of the federal public health emergency, as required by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.

DURHAM, N.C. –Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) announced today it is waiving all copays for in-network primary care and outpatient behavioral health visits for Medicare Advantage members from June 1 through the end of 2020. Visits do not have to be related to COVID-19 and can be done in person or virtually through telehealth. This measure benefits Blue Cross NC’s nearly 69,000 Medicare Advantage members. All copays for in-network primary care and outpatient behavioral health visits will be waived in full when not already $0 through a member’s health plan.
The move represents Blue Cross NC’s commitment to help members prepare, stay healthy, and get the care they need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Blue Cross NC is committed to doing all we can to best serve our members during this public health crisis,” said Rahul Rajkumar, chief medical officer at Blue Cross NC. “By eliminating these copays, we hope that it will make it easier, and encourage our senior members to get the care they need.”
The copay waiver is specific to the primary care medical visit or behavioral health therapy visit. Members may have costs for other services unless they are related to COVID-19 treatment or testing.
Blue Cross NC has already taken significant actions to help members during this public health crisis, including waiving cost-sharing for testing and treatment related to COVID-19, expanding virtual care coverage, and increasing access to medication. In addition, Blue Cross NC has taken multiple steps to make things easier for providers by speeding payments and removing barriers to care.
